  • Our first trip to the Highlands was in 2013, and among the many distilleries we visited, Balblair, one of Scotland's oldest, held a special place. With its rustic yet elegant structure, and its squat, 'round' stills, Balblair captivated us: and we vividly remember our surprise at tasting some drams directly from the cask. Extremely rare to find on brokers' lists, it was therefore an unmissable coincidence to find, ten years later, a refill Bourbon Barrel, distilled a few weeks after our visit.
    The amazing fruit that makes this whisky so seductive and sought-after shines through in this bottling: the aromas are of cream puff pastry and apple, with a rich and buttery essence, and the palate explodes in a symphony of marzipan and sweet grapefruit, with glazed cereals. The finish is almost like caffè latte, and a mineral vein reminds us that these are the Highlands.
