- Just steps from Lake Geneva, you can find Ça Boit Libre by Damien Bastian Goddard. Damien started out as a horticulturalist and spent part of his career in the Republic of Chad studying agriculture and ecosystems. Upon his return to Geneva, his love for the world of wine was truly ignited, and he began apprenticing with Savoyard winemaker Dominique Lucas, then continued working for several years with Anne and Jean-François Ganevat in the Jura. The dedication and long hours put in during this time certainly paid off, and in 2019, Damien acquired the vineyards from retired winemaker Jean-Marie Chappuis, thus launching his project. It seems like a great homecoming story, as Damien's grandfather, Andre Goddard, was a great farmer and was part of a key campaign to have Savoy wines recognized under an official AOC. Indeed, the name Damien uses on his labels (Damien Bastien Goddard) acknowledges his grandfather's legacy by using his surname. The wines are incredibly expressive and individual, the result of spontaneous fermentations and no added sulfites. They thus display a wonderful duality, an internal thrust of weight, texture, acidity, and salinity. The influence of Damien's mentors, his attention to detail, and his love for the land where he lives and works are present in his wines, and that's beyond exciting!
